Start your Day off with Success – Avoid these 3 Habits

Every day is a new opportunity to shape your life. You can set your day up for success from the moment you wake up. Choices abound us, and we have to make the right ones to get the most out of the 24 hours we are given.

To get the most out of your day, here are three little things to avoid:

1. Hitting the snooze button

We all do it from time to time. However, hitting the snooze button gives us less time in the morning to prepare for our day. This can send our entire day into a frantic series of rushing around and forgetting things. Get a good night’s rest the night before so that when you wake up, you don’t need those extra five minutes of sleep. Or, trick yourself by setting your alarms earlier than needed, until you grow out of the habit of hitting the snooze button.

2. Lacking self-compassion

We’re human. We make mistakes and fall short sometimes. If every person in the world were to never forgive themselves for a mistake, we wouldn’t get anything done or make any advancements as a society. Set yourself free by accepting past mistakes and the learning from the lessons they could provide. Every great success story includes the mistakes an individual made, and how they grew from those mistakes.

3. Buying or keeping things that are unnecessary

In a room with too much clutter, we feel stressed and enclosed. We can reduce these negative feelings by keeping our home neat — containing very little or no clutter. Stop buying products you don’t need, and throw away or donate stuff you’ve already bought that has no meaning to you. By creating a tidy environment, we create more space in our head for our thoughts to flow freely. As a bonus, having less items means there is less to clean, and less of your time will be spent cleaning.

When you wake up without the stress of oversleeping, you practice self-compassion, and you know you’ll come home to a tidy space, you’re setting yourself up for a successful day.
